Hawai'i Island Marches for Women’s Rights
Team Nakanishi was once again a proud sponsor of the Women’s March Hawai`i Island! Held on January 19, community vendors passed out information, entertained, and fed nearly 1,000 attendees who rallied, made signs, and marched through downtown Hilo.
This “women-led event brought together people from all parts of our community to protest unjust policies, advocate aloha for all, and make connections necessary to continue supporting one another!” explained Jenn Kagiwada, coordinator for the Women’s March Hawai`i Island.
The 2020 census and election were hot topics this year, and everyone was eager to register and get involved. Jenn hopes the census and election will result in “a new administration filled with hope and support for marginalized communities and the Women’s March 9 Unity Principles.”
The event was tons of fun and huge success, but the work goes on. Jenn and her team are dedicated to getting as many people counted in the census and registered for the election. Both events are important for Hawai`i Island to help secure government support, representation and funding for local services.
In addition to Team Nakanishi, a bunch of other other local business showed their support by sponsoring the event including:
- Big Island Toyota
- Fleming & Associates
- Hawaii Radiological Associates
- Island Naturals
- Keaau Natural Foods
- Lex Brodie's Tire and Service
- Liko Lehua
- Paradise Plants Home & Garden Center
- Reuben's Mexican Cafe
- Team Nakanishi
- TR’s Property Shop
