I love going to the movies! In fact, in 2019 B.C. (before COVID) I subscribed to Regal Unlimited to save money on my weekly movie visits. But, when Hilo's one-and-only movie theatre shut down for the pandemic, I was forced to stream movies online like everyone else.

With distractions all around the house, it’s difficult to make it through a movie without interruption, so I’m thrilled that Hilo’s Prince Kuhio Plaza movie theatres are opening today! Now that movies are back, here’s my list of must-sees in 2021:

In the Heights - June 11
I’m obsessed with musicals, so this show written by Lin Manuel (who also wrote Hamilton) is on the top of my list.

Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins - July 23
Truth be told, I was never a G.I. Joe fan. As a child it aired  after my favorite show Transformers and I watched it “just because”. So it has a certain sense of nostalgia that makes me want to see it.

Suicide Squad - August 6
I wasn’t a fan of  the first movie, but it’s based on comics. So, I’m there.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings - September 3
It's a Marvel movie, need I say more?

Dear Evan Hansen - September 23
I saw this musical at the Smith Center in Vegas and cried my eyes out. So, I make no guarantees that won’t happen again when this movie comes out.

Venom: Let There be Carnage - September 24
Like Suicide Squad, I wasn’t a fan of the first movie. But I feel like I should find out how the story continues.

Dune - October 1
This isn’t my type of sci-fi movie at all. But I watched a documentary about the book and movie, so now I’m interested.

Ghostbusters Afterlife - November 11
The original Ghostbusters and E.T. are the scariest movies I saw as a child. When I got older I could appreciate Ghostbusters for it’s humor, and E.T. is still scary. Who you gonna call?

West Side Story - December 10
I actually performed in the stage version of this musical and I'm really excited for Steven Spielberg's movie adaption!

Spider-Man: No Way Home - December 17
Andrew Garfield is my favorite Spier-Man, but musical theatre veteran Tom Holland also makes a great Peter Parker. An official trailer hasn't dropped yet, so this teaser will have to do for now.

The King’s Man - December 22
Not a fan of prequels, but I loved the other movies. I’m in.

Here’s a complete list of movies coming up in 2021. Are you excited to see any of them? Let me know!
